For the very first time in my life, I participated in a Hepatitis B virus screening course today in school. And soon enough, I'm going to know my blood type for the first time. Can't wait....
The whole course cost me RM20. RM16 for the virus screening and RM4 for blood group examination. I'm told that I have to pay again if I'm infected and an vaccination is needed. According to wikipedia, HB infected person would show the following symptoms:
loss of appetite
nausea
vomiting
body aches
mild fever
dark urine
jaundice
Well, my meals are in big portion, I don't vomit for months, I only feel aches when my modem fails, gald I haven't met fever for months as well, most importantly I don't dye toilet bowls into black, and my skin never shine like the glaring sun. What I can draw from all these is, I'm in perfect health! Aiks, hopefully la, I'm too poor to afford the injection, and I haven't got my Benz yet! In case you don't know, it's my ultimate life goal to sit in the rear seat of the most expensive variation of Benz and being fed papaya by my maid.
There was only an idian nurse in charged of wtihdrawing our blood sample. When I first stepped into the St John room, I saw her in action rotating the syringe which has already been injected into someone's skin. ROTATING man, walao eh, Miao the medical expert told me that's because she was locating the blood vessel so that blood sample can be extracted. It was like so WTF, was she a beginner ? Can't she look carefully into the skin before injecting the needle? I almost shivered into an icy carving when I thought of her clumsily poking my dermis in all direction, in and out, damaging all my nicely packed flesh, Aw... Fuck. How gross.. How painful it would be.
With all the fear burning my heart, I queued and waited impatiently. I saw APF almost broke in tears when the nurse took at least 3 attempts to get her blood withdrawn successfully, and KW prince almost passed out. I hold the test tube (for my own blood sample collection) even firmer....
In no time I got myself seated, with my heart beating sound reigned all my senses.
She first wrapped a strip somewhere above my elbow, wiped my skin with an alcohol-dipped cotton, and there she was, holding the syringe! My heartbeat was heard no more and the next thing I saw was the needle penetrating in.
“Ahhh”, I thought I would shout, but I didn't even move my lips. I regained my consciousness back. It WASN'T PAINFUL at all, sigh, and fuck, why were you all acting as if being bitten by a shark? Totally freaked me out, almost brokedown man.
Haiz, now, shall I hereby declare, withdrawing your blood with a syringe is totally not painful at all, even with stupid looking clumsy nurse. She tried twice before she extracted my blood successfully, and of course I was granted some “rotation”, but hell no, it's not painful, not at all, no matter how high the rpm (rotation per minute) is, you feel nothing, NOTHING. However, if you were really into shouting and tearing, do it quickly when the needle first penetrated in. Enjoy.
According to the registration form, the blood will not only be sent for HB virus screening, but AIDS virus as well. In fact this is what spurred me on to take the screening, I know it sounds ridiculous, well, keeping my finger crossed. God or whatever it is, HIV negative! Certainly not going to spend the rest of my life with flu that cures only after months. K.. ridiculous enough.
Some facts about Hepatitis B.
Hepatitis B virus causes an inflammation in the liver.
Hepatitis B virus infection may either be acute (self-limiting) or chronic (long-standing).
Acute
The acute illness causes liver inflammation, vomiting, jaundice and rarely death.
Acute hepatitis B infection does not usually require treatment because most adults clear the infection spontaneously.
Chronic
On the other hand, treatment of chronic infection may be necessary as chronic hepatitis B may eventually cause liver cancer. However, at the moment there is no drugs available to clear the infection, all a man can do is to restrain the virus from replicating.
About a third of the world's population, more than 2 billion people, have been infected with the hepatitis B virus. Which means, if you have a brother and sister, and both of them are perfectly healthy,
Congratulation,
aren't you the infected one!
Talk about luck...
